Bertus is always working with technology
Whether he is at home or at work, Bertus is always working with technology. In his spare time, he enjoys tinkering with cars; at work, he designs moulds. His greatest strength? Thinking in reverse. Bertus joined Kornelis in 2009 as a tool and mould maker. Today, he is the team leader of the mould-making department — a role that suits him perfectly.
“I think it is important that the guys can do their work properly. By making sure the moulds are delivered correctly and by keeping communication clear, everything runs smoothly here. We have a strong team, and I feel responsible. When needed, I go the extra mile.”
"I think it’s important that the guys can do their work properly”
Designing moulds requires a special way of thinking. You see the final product — a cap — but the mould itself is its exact mirror image. Sometimes I really have to switch my mindset. Especially when there is a problem, it takes time to figure out exactly how the mould has been constructed. That puzzle-solving aspect is the challenge for me.
If a mould is not working properly, the machine comes to a standstill, and that is something you want to avoid. That is why precision is essential. Our moulds run cycles of six to seven seconds. This requires a great deal from the speed, force, and temperature control. Proper maintenance is crucial. When I started, there was still a backlog in maintenance. Today, we have that much more under control. It brings peace of mind to the process, and I am proud of that.”
