90 Years of Kornelis: An evening of energy, stories and connection
Ninety years of entrepreneurship is something to celebrate together. That spirit was evident throughout our anniversary event on Thursday, 21 May at Rabo Theater De Meenthe in Steenwijk. From the very first moment, the atmosphere was full of energy. Following a powerful opening video, host Alko Tolner effortlessly guided an audience of 400 guests through an evening of inspiring stories, pride, and a look ahead to the future.
Appreciation and ambition
Director Gerben de Boer set the tone with a speech that brought together appreciation and ambition. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with employees, customers, suppliers, and partners. Gerben also looked ahead to a future in which agility and innovation will continue to make the difference. He concluded by presenting a gift to Steenwijk: a public drinking water fountain.
People & moments
The story of Kornelis then came to life. Generations of entrepreneurship, courage, and vision were brought to the stage, powerfully complemented by a video from Kopje Cultuur that highlighted Kornelis’ strong connection with the region. Mayor Erik de Groot also emphasised this sense of connection and the company’s international significance.
90 years right on top
A special moment followed with the unveiling of the cover and the presentation of the anniversary book ‘90 Years Right on Top’ to Jelte and Sucha Kornelis, the third generation of the family-owned business. A beautiful book filled with stories, images, and iconic products.
Family story and improvisation
Jelte Kornelis shared a personal story about his family, pioneering spirit, and growth. This was followed by a performance from comedy group MIER. The men of MIER delivered a spectacular finale with a fully customised improvisation show. From sketches to a Kornelis song, the performance was sharp, recognisable, and above all, incredibly entertaining.
A celebration in Kornelis style
Everything came together in the adjoining party venue. During a walking dinner, followed by live music and a party band, there was plenty of opportunity to meet, share memories, and celebrate together.
What a fantastic amount
As the finishing touch, a cheque for €15,000 was presented to the Groot Verzet tegen Kanker Foundation. Kornelis invited its guests to make a donation to this wonderful foundation. It was a moment that once again highlighted what Kornelis stands for. We look back on a fantastic evening that we will not soon forget!
