Kornelis makes its logistics more sustainable and efficient with shared pallets

Kornelis Caps & Closures has been using CHEP pallets for quite some time, a pallet system that operates with a pallet exchange service. The advantage of CHEP is that you don’t throw away pallets; instead, they are reused through pallet sharing. For Kornelis, it’s a sustainable way to transport our products from Steenwijk to customers.

We use various types of pallets, including wooden, plastic, and specific pallets for certain customers. This helps us reduce the use and purchase of different pallets as much as possible. This is one of the reasons we increasingly rely on CHEP pallets.

What is CHEP?

CHEP is a pallet pooling service. With their system, pallets can be reused and shared with customers and suppliers. A large group of Kornelis customers and suppliers also use CHEP. 'We receive CHEP pallets daily from our suppliers that we can use for transporting orders. This way, we always have enough pallets in stock, and it requires fewer actions from us to store new pallets,' says Koos Wagenaar, Supply Chain Manager at Kornelis.

More flexibility

Working with CHEP offers more flexibility within the supply chain. We input into CHEP’s system what pallets go out and what pallets come in. Koos explains: 'This way, CHEP knows how many pallets we have in stock. In most cases, our customer uses CHEP pallets as well. This reduces the transport of pallets back and forth. It’s a win-win situation for both us and our customers.'
